Overseas territories of India can be traced as far as the ancient era, with the Chera dynasty occupying the Lakshadweep Islands west of India.
Ancient & Early Middle India
[edit]The Cheras, one of the Three Crowned Kings, managed to capture and occupy the Lakshadweep Islands. This is mentioned in the Sangam literature Patiṟṟuppattu, saying it was captured during the Sangam period.[1]
These islands were later captured by the Palaas.[2]
Chola Empire
[edit]The Chola Empire conquered modern-day Sri Lanka and large parts of Southeast Asia.[3]
They led dedicated campaigns of offensive against Srivijay and other Southeast Asian kingdoms.[4]
