Hamoon Khelghat-Doost

Hamoon Khelghat-Doost (Persian: هامون خلقت-دوست) is an Iranian academic who serves as an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Üsküdar University in Turkey,[1] and a lecturer in International Relations at the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom.[2] He holds a PhD in Political Science from the National University of Singapore. His research focuses on human security, sustainable development, and the intersection of gender and political violence, particularly in the Middle East, North Africa, and Southeast Asia. He has written extensively on gender issues, forced migration, religious violence, terrorism, radicalization, and international security.[1][2]

Early life and education

Khelghat-Doost is Iranian. He obtained his undergraduate degree in 2007 from the University of Science, Malaysia, majoring in English Language and Literature Studies. He later completed a master's degree in Communication Studies at the same institution in 2011. In 2018, he earned his PhD in Political Science from the National University of Singapore.[1]

Career

Khelghat-Doost is currently an Assistant Professor of Political Science in the Department of Political Science and International Relations at Üsküdar University in Turkey,[1] and a lecturer in International Relations at the University of Lincoln in the United Kingdom.[2] His research has been published in leading academic journals such as Studies in Conflict and Terrorism and Perspectives on Terrorism, in addition to several book chapters. In 2021, he authored the book The Strategic Logic of Women in Jihadi Organisations: From Operation to State Building, which examines the roles of women in jihadi organizations and their contribution to state-building processes.[2][3]

Khelghat-Doost has conducted extensive fieldwork in conflict zones, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria, Lebanon, Turkey, Malaysia, Indonesia, and Iran.[4]

Khelghat-Doost's research focuses on:

International security, Terrorism, Forced migration, Non-state armed organizations, Middle East and North Africa studies, Foreign policy, and Sustainable development (human security). His work also covers the role of gender in political violence, particularly in relation to forced migration and non-state armed groups.[1][2][5][6]
