GNLU is an important elevated interchange metro station on the North-South corridor of the Red Line of the Ahmedabad Metro in Ahmedabad, India. This metro station was inaugurated on 16 September 2024[1][2][3] by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and was opened to the public on 17 September 2024 [4]

History

[edit]

In the initial stages of Phase 2,[5] Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) sought bids for constructing this metro station along the 28.25km Motera Stadium - Mahatma Mandir stretch of the Red Line of Ahmedabad Metro, and this phase was split into 2 lines. Line 1 covers 20.8km from Motera Stadium to Sector-1 (Gandhinagar) including GNLU to GIFT City metro stations, while Line 2 covers the remaining 7.45km from Sector-1 (Gandhinagar) to Mahatma Mandir metro stations.

In January 2020, GMRC initiated the tendering for the civil construction, technical bids on June 2020 and Afcons Infrastructures were the lowest bidders securing the Line 1 stretch. They commenced the construction of this metro station as per the agreements in February 2021. [6]
