Women First Digital (WFD) is an international organization that uses digital technologies to share information and connect people with relevant resources in the realm of sexual and reproductive health.
Background
[edit]WFD was established in 2015. Since its establishment, WFD has reached around 180 countries across Asia, Africa, and the Americas, with over 25 million website sessions and more than 300,000 direct abortion care services provided.[1]
WFD's goal is to increase sexual and reproductive health accessibility (including safe abortion and contraception), and address issues like healthcare system strains, stigma, provider biases, and legal restrictions.[2]
Programs
[edit]WFD has three primary e-health platforms: safe2choose, HowToUseAbortionPill, and find my method.[3][4][5] These platforms offer counseling services, stepwise instructions, and comprehensive information on contraceptive methods, respectively. WFD makes information available in multiple languages and adjusts it to be relevant to different regions through local websites and content.[4][6][7][8]
Partnerships and collaborations
[edit]WFD has collaborated with Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF), and MSI Reproductive Choices, among others.[9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16][17]
Research and Publications
[edit]WFD collaborated with Ipas CAM on a survey report to understand the impact of abortion stigma and violence on healthcare providers.[18] WFD also engages in advocacy for access to care and addresses digital censorship challenges faced by its platforms.[19][20]

[edit]WFD has encountered digital censorship,[21] and thus has partnered with organizations like Feminism in India and participated in international forums like RightsCon, with the goal of advocating for transparent content moderation and preserving democratic access to information.[22][23][24]
Recognition and awards
[edit]WFD's animator Maria Florencia Scasso was honored as one of the 'Top 25 Emerging Women in Animation' at the GNA Confex.[25]
