Thomas F Folland

Thomas Frederick Folland is a Los Angeles art historian specializing in modern and contemporary art, and a former curator and art critic from Toronto, Canada. He is a currently professor of art history in the Arts, Media, and Performance department at Los Angeles Mission College.

Folland holds a PhD in art history from the University of California, Los Angeles. After receiving a BFA in art from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1984, he was awarded a fellowship in the Whitney Museum of American Art's prestigious Independent Study Program (Whitney ISP) in 1985.[1] In 1988 he was appointed Assistant Curator at The Power Plant, a center for contemporary art at Toronto's Harbourfront District. Along with The Power Plant, Folland has curated exhibitions for Mercer Union Gallery and YYZ Artists' Outlet, [2] Toronto, the Sao Paulo Biennial, and Thread Waxing Space, New York (co-curated with Joseph Wolin.)[3] Folland is a contributing writer at Smart History and the author of numerous articles and essays on modern and contemporary art.[4]
