History

[edit]

2016: Formation

[edit]

The band is formed in 2016 by lead vocalist Matthieu Kirby[2]. Known for blending elements of emo, metalcore, alternative rock, synthwave, and more recently, phonk and neo-metal influences, the band has gained recognition for their genre experimentation and innovative sound. The lineup was completed with John Fine on guitar and Hugo Peix on drums, allowing the group to develop its unique musical identity.

2017: Early Releases

[edit]

The band's first release, the single “The Wrong Way”[3], debuted in December 2017. This marked the beginning of their rise in the French music scene, further propelled by the release of “Lost in the Crowd”[4] in May 2018. This track led to their first major live performance, opening for Asking Alexandria in Paris, establishing their reputation as an emerging force in modern metal.

2018: Breakthrough

[edit]

In 2018, TSS released “Someone”, a single that signified a shift in their sound, incorporating synthwave and retrowave elements. This release also marked the first time John Fine contributed as a second lead vocalist. In May 2019, they released their self-titled debut EP[5], featuring the single “Damn, I Hate It”, which was praised for its blend of funk, synthwave, and emo influences. The EP’s success was followed by a sold-out release show in Paris, solidifying their growing popularity.

2019: Evolution

[edit]

The band further explored their creative range by integrating French lyrics into their music, resulting in the release of “YAYAYA”[6] in September 2019. This originality attracted the attention of the independent label PlayTwo, leading to a partnership with Warner Music and TF1 to produce their debut album, "REGRETS".

2021: Rebranding

[edit]

In September 2021, the band rebranded to TSS and released the single “1996”[7], which garnered significant national attention.

2023: Musical Shift

[edit]

In February 2023, TSS adopted a heavier sound with the release of “Tes Pleurs”[8], a modern metalcore track influenced by acts such as Bring Me The Horizon and Poppy. The single expanded their audience while maintaining their signature gothic and K-pop-inspired visual style. The band's willingness to experiment culminated in the viral success of their August 2023 release, “Fantasize”[9], a fusion of alternative rock, J-Rock, phonk, and metal that amassed millions of streams on Spotify.

2024: Recent Developments

[edit]

TSS continued to build on this momentum with the December 2023 release of “Would You Be My Therapy?”[10], which topped the iTunes rock charts and attracted attention from major record labels. After signing with Fearless Records[11], the band released the single "KILLING ME"[12] in September 2024. The track, which combined neo-metal, 2000s rock, and metalcore elements, was accompanied by a visually striking music video inspired by 2000s horror films and The Matrix.
