SJK (C) Jalan Davidson is a National-type Chinese Primary School and is known for being the first and only school in Bukit Bintang to achieve the Sekolah Kluster Kecemerlangan (SKK) .
The school has approximately 70 teachers and 2000 students.
History
[edit]The school was founded in 1928.It was originally located opposite the Guangzhou Association in Jalan Bandar, Kuala Lumpur. It was opened by Kapitan Yap Guan Sheng with approval by the government. The school was called “Government Chinese Free School”. The first headmaster was Mr. Loke Chong San with only 6 teachers and 200 students.[1]
During the Japanese rule, this school was closed and all the facilities in the school were destroyed. After the war, with the help of Mr. AW Frisby, Mr. FT Laidlaw, Mr. Liu Hwai Kwook and others from the Selangor Department of Education. Mr. Ting Pin Sung was appointed as Head Teacher. English subjects have been added in the timetable and Mandarin is used as the Language of Instruction. The number of students at that time was approximately 500 people.
In early 1949, the Ministry of Education held a Normal Senior Teacher Training to solve the problem of teacher shortage in Chinese schools. Therefore, this school has been selected as one of the teacher training centers. A total of five teacher training sessions were held and it has successfully trained more than 150 teachers. Apart from that, this school is also used as a holiday teacher training center for Chinese Primary Schools for several years.[1]
In 1958, the school changed its name to SRJK (C) Jalan Davidson. In 1965, Headmaster Mr. Ting Ping Suang retired and his place was replaced by Senior Assistant Mr. Tong Lee Poh. On June 1, 1972, Mr. Tong was transferred to SRJK(C) Nam Keong. The vacant post was taken over by Mr. Wan An Poh.In 1 September 1978, Mr. Wan Ah Poh was promoted and transferred to SRJK(C) Serdang (1). The Department of Education later appointed Mr. Tan Sin Min as the Headmaster of the school.[1]
In 1981, the Board of Managers, Parent Teachers Association (PIBG) and the Old Students' Association held a campaign to collect donations to build the school's entrance and fence. The school has invited Mr. Sim Mow Yu to voice the name of the school on the written stone. With the joint efforts of the three parties, the school's entrance and fence were completed in the same year.[1]
In 1982, the Deputy Minister of Education at the time Mr. Chan Sian Sun approved the allocation of money to the school with the full assistance of his Private Secretary Mr. Lew Teng Fong, a three-story building equipped with a library, audio-visual room, classroom and canteen was completed in the same year.[1]
In 1998, the school added air conditioning in all of the classrooms.[1]
In 2016, the school was donated by the YTL Foundation to make two 'FrogClassroom' which includes 82 ChromeBooks.[2]
In 2018, business tycoon Tan Sri Yeoh Tiong Lay and his wife Puan Sri Tan Kai Yong donated RM17.8 Million to the school.[3]

[edit]The school has designated places for parents to send their kids off to school. The school is located next to the KG17 Merdeka MRT station.
