The Maria Islands (French: Îles Maria) are a cluster of small islands in the Tubuai Archipelago (French Polynesia). It is located 205 km northwest of Rimatara Island and 352 km east of Mangaya Island (Cook Islands). Another name is the Isles of Hull.

Geography

Four small islands form an atoll with a deep triangular lagoon. The total land area is only 1.3 km².

History

The atoll was discovered in 1824 by Captain George Washington Gardner (1778–1838) of Nantucket and named after his whaling ship Maria[1]
