  • Comment: WP:SUSTAINED is kinda failed here, all sources that count towards notability are from around the same date of 29-30 January. I'd suggest mentioning it in the article of the main game instead. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 10:33, 6 May 2024 (UTC)

Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is a 2024 3D platformer video game developed by Maddy Makes Games, released as a free download to celebrate Celeste's sixth anniversary on January 29, 2024. Inspired by Super Mario 64 and continuing Celeste's story, the player explores Celeste Mountain once more as Madeline.[1]

Gameplay

[edit]

Celeste 64: Fragments of the Mountain is a three-dimensional reimagining of its two-dimensional predecessor Celeste. Gameplay elements such as dashing and climbing return.[2] Celeste 64 is contained to one level, "Forsaken City", which previously appeared as the first chapter of Celeste.[3] There are 30 Strawberries around the map to collect, with some being found in Super Mario Sunshine inspired challenge areas accessible by finding cassette tapes.[4]

Development and release

[edit]

Celeste 64 was developed under two weeks[nb 1] by Maddy Makes Games, with the developers calling it a "similar to a weekend jam game".[5] It released with no prior announcement as a free download onto the itch.io platform. Alongside it's release, the source code was released as a Github repository.[6]

Reception

[edit]

PC Gamer's Harvey Randall called the game a "solid proof of concept".[3]

Notes

[edit]
  1. ^ The itch.io project page describes the game as being developed in "a week(ish)"[1], while the Github repository describes the development cycle as "in a week(ish, closer to 2)"[5]
