Adam Schoon (born 1963) is an English antiques and fine art specialist and frequent TV presenter and broadcaster at the BBC.[1]. His main areas of expertise are Chinese, Japanese and South East Asian art and antiques.
Early life and education
[edit]Schoon was born in Sheffield in 1963[citation needed] and grew up in the Peak District, Derbyshire. Educated at Grindleford Primary School, then St Olaves[2] and St Peter’s[3] in York (as a boarder).
Television career
[edit]Schoon has been a TV Art and Antiques consultant[4] and presenter since 1990 – he has worked on numerous programmes and long running series such as Going For a Song (1990-1999) and The Antiques Show,[5], and made his debut on BBC[6] TVs The Antiques Roadshow[7] in 1999.
Professional career
[edit]Schoon joined Henry Spencer & Sons, Retford, Nottinghamshire in 1980 as a trainee antiques valuer at the age of 17 years.[citation needed]
Independent consultant from 1990 – clients include Tennants Auctioneers[8], North Yorkshire Council[9], Dukes of Dorchester[10], Hansons[11], Cheffins of Cambridge[12], and national museums, universities and councils. Adam acts as an expert witness in court cases involving disputes as to authenticity of art and antiques.
Schoon is also a partner at Hobson & Schoon Fine Auctions based in Quinta do Lago, Algarve providing valuation and auction services to the international community living in Portugal and wider Europe.
Schoon is a well known public speaker – and has previously lectured nationally for NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Art Societies)[13] now known as The Arts Society, as well as for charity and corporate events. His many subjects include the origins of blue and white porcelain, The China Trade (emphasis on Portugal and the rise of the East India Companies), and British folk art.
Shoon has been a life-long member of the Oriental Ceramic Society and travels extensively in the Far East both for study and business purposes.

Personal Life
