FAQ

[edit]

Where is the event?

We'll be in Seminar North at NPR Headquarters. If you're a guest, tell security you're here to help with the Wikipedia tutorial, and they'll help you sign in.

What should I bring?

* A laptop, especially if you're a not an NPR employee
* An interest in black history and editing Wikipedia!

Do I have to register to attend, or can I just arrive on the day?

If you are NOT an NPR employee, you'll need to sign up above with your Wikipedia username and your real name. If you don't feel comfortable listing your real name above, just send Veronica a note with it. It will be on your security badge, but we don't mind you wearing that backwards. :)
NPR employees are encouraged to RSVP above, but can just show up.

You didn't answer my question!

Feel free to ask on this project's talk page. We welcome suggestions on the development and progress of this meetup.

Editing Wikipedia

[edit]

Articles to work on

[edit]

If you're new to Wikipedia, you'll want to work items from the first lists. If you have some experience, feel free to dive into the intermediate and advanced items.

Add citations

[edit]

These articles need to be more clearly linked to reliable sources that provide the information. Check out the Wikipedia article on Citing Sources for help with citations.

Fix citations

[edit]

The format for this citation needs to be tidied up.

Intermediate: Expand article

[edit]

Write more about this subject, and make sure your sources are cited.

Intermediate: Revise to neutral viewpoint

[edit]

It's possible that someone affiliated with the subject wrote the article.

Advanced: Review and refine

[edit]

These articles need less obvious improvements. Review the article carefully and find places where the subject could be better explained or better cited.

Advanced: New articles to write

[edit]

Before starting to write, make sure that the subject meets Wikipedia's notability requirements!

[edit]

As an NPR employee, you have access to lots of:

As a DC library cardholder, you also have access to lots of:
