Richard Montgomery was not an American

[edit]

I don't know how to reword the sentence/phrase re: breaking with the naming convention, but Richard Montgomery was not an American. He was an Irish-born soldier who later came to the colonies and was a key figure in the American revolution (for the independence side), however he died in 1775. I don't think in any sense he can be called "an American" (though no doubt he was instrumental in American independence). Can someone re-write the sentence/phrase to something like 'named after figures popular in America'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:A:3382:596C:2D57:6CD:2927:1681 (talk) 18:07, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
