rm'd the SD tag

[edit]

Someone, probably very unfamiliar with the article subject, placed an SD tag on this article without discussion. The users recent history seems to show a bad habit of that. There are thousands of warranted SD's on Wikipedia...this isn't one of them. Fair Deal 15:27, 22 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I know it is a long time since the above comment was posted, but it may help someone some time to have this issue clarified. The tag referred to was a speedy deletion tag. It said that the article was an article about a real person that does not indicate the importance or significance of the subject. This was true: the article as it existed at the time did not indicate notability. Whether the user who placed the tag was "very unfamiliar with the article subject" or not is irrelevant: the subject may be very notable, but if the article does not establish that fact then it is perfectly correct to tag it. If Fair Deal was aware of evidence of notability then the correct procedure was to add that evidence to the article, not to criticise Buckner 1986 for having placed the tag.
