The image was not clearly labeled as being in the Afghanistan Maidan Valley, but it was labeled as having soldiers marching to "Argandeh", which according to google maps is very close to the Maidan Valley of Afghanistan. The men in the foreground are also mentioned to be Afghan men, and this image seems to have a lot less trees than the image of the Maidan Valley in Pakistan given in that article (see File:Maidan Valley Lower Dir.jpg). Maybe a source? May not actually refer to this valley
