Wikipedia:Main Page/Errors

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.

  • Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
  • Offer a correction if possible.
  • References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
  • Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 05:34 on 17 October 2024) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
  • Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
  • Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
  • No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
  • Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
  • Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

Errors with "In the news"

[edit]
  • The choice of the blurb is unfortunate. We usually use the wording in the statement of the Nobel Committee, which is 'for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity'. There's no notion of 'research on global inequality', and this is largely original research by The New York Times.--Kiril Simeonovski (talk) 08:24, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

China didn't make memento dollars in 1914; the image caption should say "1912 memento dollar" Generalissima (talk) (it/she) 17:18, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]

 Done, thanks! Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 17:22, 15 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Kusma, thanks for responding. I see a blank line there at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Main_Page/Tomorrow, which I presume will accurately depict the appearance of the main page tomorrow. I am using the default skin on a PC, using Firefox or Edge, and it is there regardless of the magnification that I set. I could not see a blank line in either of the example pages that you specified in your response. JMCHutchinson (talk) 20:44, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've blanked the empty space for now to allow for an easier comparison of the lengths of the MP sections, though I agree with Kusma that this is not an error per se as the bot will not copy the blank space. I will raise a question at WT:DYK to see if there is a way to avoid having the blank space introduced in queue, as that will mitigate error reports.  — Chris Woodrich (talk) 21:01, 16 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
