You do know they replay your interview two or three times a week under a spiffy little nickname, right? ;-) Bearcat 04:12, 15 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

laugh They're calling you "Facebook Kid", actually. Definitely hook the radio up when you get it — I can't even tell you how much I'm in love with R3.
Anyway, it's good that things have quieted down on that front — but for an administrator, the hell never really ends. Something just as frustrating has been going on since last fall on a different set of Canadian politics articles, and I despair of ever figuring out how to make it end... bleah. Hi! I'll have a look about removing/moving the pictures right now. As for the "main article" I thought it was helpful with the layout, as it might not be obvious that they are articles. It certaintly doesn't look too wide on my screen, but I have a resoulution of 1280x1024 so that might be why. (And what's wrong with decoration, it makes it look nice!) About the UWO article: this is not academic boosterism since I don't attend Western Ontario. I've done a comparison of the Wikipedia articles for McGill, Toronto, Western, and Queen's and I see that all other 3 articles have references to rankings in the introductions, so Western should have too. Another point: it is a fact that UWO is consistently ranked among the top 5 universities by Maclean's, and it is a fact that every Wiki page about Canadian universities refers to the Maclean's ranking. And what problem do you have with linking the word "oldest" to the "Old Four" article? You should not delete something as long as it is factual, accurate, and appropriate.

For your information, the introduction is almost identical as this: http://communications.uwo.ca/about/index.htm The only exception is that that sentence "Western is one of Canada's oldest and best universities" is conspicuously removed. Is it an effort to play down UWO by somebody?

Are you kidding me? The whole introduction (not done by me) is copied from the UWO website for the exception of, guess what, MY LINE. I wrote, "It is consistently ranked among the top Canadian universities by Maclean's." How is that different from what's written on the McGill article??? I'm gonna write, "It is consistently ranked among the top 5 Canadian universities by Maclean's" now. It is verifiable statistics, isn't it?

By the way, I didn't write "it is one of the best schools in Canada." Obviously you deleted my entry without even reading it. I get the sense that you're related to McGill somehow, am I right? Please choose 04:45, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

McGill: The university... is among the top 25 universities in the world according to the 2006 Times Higher Education Supplement." UWO: It is among the top 5 Canadian universities according to Maclean's 2006 University Rankings issue.-

If you delete my entry again this time, then you're simply biased. By the way, you don't seem to be interested in fixing the UWO article so that it conforms with the McGill article. All this time you spend deleting whatever's written, you could just spend correcting the sentence like you want it to be... McGill student, huh? Please choose 05:24, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The fact that you're a McGill's student is very relevant indeed. It makes you biased against other schools and, according to the founder of Wikipedia on an interview with WBUR a couple of days ago, you shouldn't be fiddling with this page. Yep, that's him talking, not me. Oh, and the fact that I listen to WBUR should imply I live in Boston, and I don't attend any Canadian university. I'm therefore unbiased! In fact, I didn't care about the UWO article until you kept deleting my line, which really bugged me... Please choose 06:07, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your analogy is nice, except that it's erroneous. Because you live in Montreal, that doesn't mean you can't write stuff about Montreal or other cities because cities don't rival. But colleges do rival. That you're a McGill's students certainly implies you might be biased against other Canadian schools. For the same token, if you are a fan of Manchester Utd, that doesn't mean you hate all Londoners, but that could easily mean you're biased against Chelsea FC. I'm taking good sense here, why are you trying to use bogus analogy to make your point?

Now, to be fair, that you "might" be biased against other schools doesn't mean you "are" biased. But the matter of fact is, you didn't bother correcting the sentence I wrote. It seems like all you had in mind is, "This sentence is making UWO look good. Oh no, that's not good. I gotta delete it." Hey, if you're so interested in making the article conform to the Wiki consensus, why don't you just fix the sentence, huh? How hard is it for you (supposedly long-time contributor) to add a reference. After all, a whole lot of people know the link to the Maclean's ranking, and I'm sure as hell you do, too (If you don't, then you don't have the knowledge to be meddling with Canadian universities articles). Stop being a kid, and start acting like an adult, please.

And seriously, what problem do you have with linking the word "oldest" to the "Old Four" wiki article? Can't stand seeing UWO next to your own McGill??? Please choose

Hey, I think I wrote a sentence including the citation and the link to the Maclean's ranking (pdf file) BEFORE YOU DID!!! Then you deleted it, you wrote it again, and you cited the same source as mine. Now you're saying that you deleted my sentence because there was no citation, and that you fixed it. What's the deal?

Oh, and thanks for admitting that you are biased. After all, don't you think it's stupid to squabble over one sentence while a whole lot of other stuff in that same introduction is biased as hell. UWO is a "vibrant" center of learning. What does vibrant mean? Why is it not promotional? A whole bunch of citations are needed, you didn't delete them, you put a [citation needed] note instead. How nice of you!!! Why didn't you do the same thing for the Maclean's sentence??? Hmm, I wonder if... Please choose 20:10, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm gonna send you the "Please assume good faith" stuff too, only if I know how to... Weren't you the one who first started this whole mess when you accused me of academic boosterism or something like that? Why didn't you assume I was trying to help and take my sentence as true but not conformed to standard? If you did so, you would naturally correct it instead of going on a "deleting spree"...

Your messages to me are full of attacks disguised as constructive criticisms. Please refer to the article Hypocrisy. Please choose 21:09, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

STOP LYING!!! You didn't fixed my sentence. You deleted it. I fixed it (corrected the sentence form and included the citation). You deleted it again. Then you put the exact same sentence back and said you fixed it... Please refer to lie Please choose 21:15, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

User:PalestineRemembered

[edit]

I just noticed that you reverted a change made by PalestineRemembered to their own user page, which you identified as being anti-Semitic, however, it's not clear which part of their edit you specifically objected to. In the interest of avoiding conflict, I reckon it would be worth putting the unoffensive parts of their change back in, and just removing the bits you believe are anti-Semitic. Even better, you may want to ask the user to remove those specific parts themselves, as this can help foster a collaborative environment, and help the other user learn what kind of language they should avoid. Hello, Chabuk. An automated process has found and will an image or media file tagged as nonfree media, and thus is being used under fair use that is in your userspace. The image (Image:Morton.jpg) was found at the following location: User:Chabuk/Sandbox2. This image or media will be removed per criterion number 9 of our non-free content policy. The image or media will be replaced with Image:NonFreeImageRemoved.svg , so your formatting of your userpage should be fine. This does not necessarily mean that the image is being deleted, or that the image is being removed from other pages. It is only being removed from the page mentioned above. All mainspace instances of this image will not be affected Please find a free image or media to replace it with, and or remove the image from your userspace. Chabon edits

[edit]

While it was thrilling to see Michael Chabon comment on his own Wikipedia entry (and to see how the entry had influenced mass media), I feel as if it may not have justified one of your deletions. It doesn't make sense to me that the entry on Chabon should omit the fact that he "married the writer Ayelet Waldman in 1993, and they currently live together in Berkeley, California with their four children." This information appears in the author's blurb for all of Chabon's recent books, and isn't exactly invasive. What would you think of reinstalling this information and moving it (along with the truncated "sexual orientation" section) to a new "personal life" section at the end of the biography? Thanks, and great work on the Chabon page in general. -Hobbesy3 07:31, 25 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Persecution..." article

[edit]

Chabuk, I was wondering what are your thoughts about Biblically based articles and how they would be affected if we start excluding the Bible as a source. Can you please differentiate between an article like Moses and other such articles and the "Persecution..." article? I'm just trying to undertsand your thought process on this matter so we can better resolve the issue. Please let me know. Thank you. Jtpaladin 18:33, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Chabuk, I have closed the straw poll on whether or not keep the article with a slim consensus to keep. I felt, looking it over, that the major contributors to the page had all weighed in. If you feel it would be more appropriate, an AfD would generate a broader range of comments. If not, I would invite you to please pitch in on the ensuing discussion about the scope of the article -- personally I feel that your input would be invaluable in ensuring that we have the best possible outcome. Thanks. Pastordavid 22:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Chabuk. It's been the pratice on Wikipedia, to describe (in Infoboxes) an elected official as Office-Elect (or in parlamentary cases Office-Designate), until that individual takes office. As a result, Peres should be listed as President-Elect of Israel until he takes office in July 15 (then he can be listed as the 9th President of Israel). That's the reason for my edits. Fair use rationale for Image:Yrplogo.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Yrplogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:45, 6 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Tokyo bid 2016.jpg)

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Tokyo bid 2016.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 19:01, 18 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

AfD nomination of COBS Bread

[edit]

COBS Bread, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that COBS Bread satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/COBS Bread and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of COBS Bread during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Corblund.gif

[edit]

Thanks for uploading Image:Corblund.gif. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. Replaceable fair use Image:Corblund.gif

[edit]
Replaceable fair use
Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Corblund.gif. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use media which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Rettetast (talk) 10:56, 6 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Definition of COI

[edit]

From this comment, I get the impression you don't quite understand what "conflict of interest" means. It doesn't mean that your judgement is impaired or that you would make a decision that goes against the interests of the community. All it means is that one person is playing two roles, in a situation where that's usually not supposed to happen. It's highly respectable to recuse oneself in situations of conflict of interest. It's not an admission of weakness or impaired judgement. It's proper procedure. The reason for conflict of interest procedures is of course to avoid actual situations of impaired judgement etc.; but in the majority of cases, there is no impaired judgement etc. but there is still conflict of interest. --Coppertwig (talk) 00:16, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • I know perfectly well what a conflict of interest is, which is why I made it clear that I was involved with the various organizations being discussed. However, the organizations are, objectively (given Wikipedia's standards on verifiability and secondary sources), not deserving of articles. Thanks for your concern. -- Chabuk T • C ] 00:25, 11 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Campaign audit

[edit]

What are your thoughts on the campaign audit ruling today for Vaughan's mayor? ED209 (talk) 21:37, 19 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

As I live in Montreal, I really don't follow the daily goings on of Vaughan politics so I'm not sure which ruling it was. - Chabuk T • C ] 18:13, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I figured you would have heard about it or read about it by now, as you closely monitor the Vaughan related pages on here. Anyway, here's the link: http://news.google.ca/news?hl=en&tab=wn&ned=&ncl=1134453473&scoring=d Your thoughts? ED209 (talk) 18:28, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • Just looking through the archives of my talk page, I noticed you make this statement to me in an argument we had:
"In the world of electoral politics $750 is small change, enough to buy a couple lawn signs, thats about it. Receiving 96% of donations (not sure where you got that number from) from corporations doesn't mean much, cause it's all coming from different corporations. To compare it to lobby politics in the States (which is essentially what you're doing) simply doesn't make sense."
One of the allegations against the Mayor seems to be that she accepted thousands from the linked corporations/individuals. If she is proven guilty of violating the election act, I guess we're talking about a similar situation to lobby politics, right? ED209 (talk) 18:44, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you don't like Jackson I'm sure you will be very happy with many of the things that are coming down the pipeline over the next few months. ED209 (talk) 18:53, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yaakov Shwekey

[edit]

Are you really sure that Yaakov Shwekey was a member of the MBC when he was a boy???? i'm asking that because I have absolutely all the albums of MBC that were ever produced and I cannot found the name "Yaakov Shwekey" anywhere on the albums, except on the album "Miami 25", but at that time he was already a grown-up!!!

So, if Yaakov Shwekey was really a child-member of the choir, it was under another name?

Thanks for uploading Image:Morris-Winchevsky.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

The article Camp BB – Riback has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NOTABILITY not established

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Kate Crooks

[edit]

Hi, @Chabuk:. One of kate Crooks botanical specimens is found in McGill University Herbarium. I was hoping with your knowledge of McGill, you might be able to un-red the link. (It is quite an important specimen, as it is the only one anyone knows the whereabouts of. See "Where is Kate Crooks' collection". MargaretRDonald (talk) 00:16, 20 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
