NDP / New Democratic

[edit]

I'm not so knowledgeable when it comes to editing templates, so is there any way this template could produce lines that read "New Democratic" instead of "NDP"? FUNgus guy (talk) 19:17, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Also, there seems to be some other issues (see here). It does not link properly to the 12th or 13th assemblies (it links to 12nd and 13rd), and the link for the CCF party is broken. FUNgus guy (talk) 20:31, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Addendum: CCF should be listed as Co-operative Commonwealth, and the link for the Labour party also does not work. The links to the 12th and 13th assemblies seems to work now, so thanks! FUNgus guy (talk) 22:33, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Don't know who fixed it all, but thanks! It all works fine now (see here). FUNgus guy (talk) 00:26, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Cool.  Let me know if you spot any more bugs!  Cheers — Who R you? Talk 00:32, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hate to bother, but there is no link for the Progressive party. Liberal-Progressive works. Re: Brant (provincial electoral district). Again, thanks Who R you?. FUNgus guy (talk) 00:49, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Progressive (with the green party colour) on Brant (provincial electoral district) actually does show up (for me).  If you aren't seeing it, then you probably need to purge the server cash on that page.  To do that (on any page)… Go to the page Brant (provincial electoral district) in this case; then on the command bar at the top of the page (Read, Edit, View History, star, ▼) click the and select "Purge".  See: WP:Purge for what/why it does what it does.  Let me know if it still doesn't work!  Cheers — Who R you? Talk 01:09, 9 June 2014 (UTC)   P.S. You're welcome, happy to help with stuff![reply]

I take that back… I was looking at the Brant (provincial electoral district) before you saved your changes (which had the old non-template format of the MPPs list).  Progressive party was actually hard-coded there; the problem is that it was incorrect — it was linked to Progressive Party of Canada, which would be the federal party and not the same as the Progressive Party of Ontario (or whatever is was).  I'd create the link, but I don't know what to link it to, so for now the system defaults to no link.  Let me know where it should link to and I'll add it, but I'm not sure there is an article for that party back then.  Cheers — Who R you? Talk 01:21, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry about that, I commented here while still building the template, I saw it while it was all still under "Show preview". And that's a good question, where does Progressive link to? A cursory glance, and there's some relation with United Farmers of Ontario and the CCF. But in the Ontario sense, Liberal-Progressive seems to be more of an alliance of Liberals and Conservatives. Will have to do more research, I think. Good thing that it's a no-link in the meantime. FUNgus guy (talk) 01:45, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Super cyclist: Yeah, looks like that's one of those articles to be created at a later date; if any information on an 85-year-old defunct Ontario political party can be found, that is.  I was just fiddling with the Nipissing MPP list and looking at the whole Nipissing East/Nipissing West split and trying to figure out what happened to Sturgeon Falls (without much luck).  Do you know of any sources of riding info going way back when for this kind of Ontario riding stuff?  All I know of is the elections.on.ca stuff and nothing there seems to go back beyond 1995 (which is the same issue I keep running into when I've been moving old election results to templates — no way to verify what WP has, so I'm just cut&pasting the > 20 years ago stuff and hoping it's reasonably accurate).  — Who R you? Talk 02:21, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I don't know of any, sorry. That is also in the category of 'look that up later'. FUNgus guy (talk) 02:33, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
@Super cyclist: LOL!   On another topic, I changed the way you set up one of the MPP lists and I'm wondering if you agree with my changes.  Haliburton—Kawartha Lakes—Brock (and a couple others I noticed) had been set up with the riding name in the title (i.e. {{OntMPP | Riding name }}) and then more information with comment (NoData) lines and then another table immediately following with the new name it was renamed to.  I find the list looks bulky with multiple tables (which repeats the column headings).  I originally added the Riding name title for situations where a list was created on an article page other than the riding the list was about — As with the electoral results templates (which actually suppress the riding name in the title if the riding name is the same as the article title), it seems like unnecessary information to indicate the riding name in the {{OntMPP}} table if it's just the same name as the article title.  Riding renamings, dissolutions, mergers, etc are a different case; but even for those, I find it looks clearer if that information is included within the table (via NoData lines – so the info is below the column headings) rather than using the table heading.  Please take a look and let me know what you think about the changes I made to the Haliburton… table and if you think that's the way to go, or if another format is preferable.  Thanks — Who R you? Talk 03:54, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I noticed a few that were changed like that, and I must say, it does look a lot neater. I was hoping to make all the templates show "Riding created from..." to link to the defunct ridings from which they were created, but that needs more research. All active Ontario ridings now sport this template, and no other bugs were found. On another note, I noticed on the Macleod (electoral district) page that the Progressive party member became a United Farmer, but this is at the federal level, and their provincial counterparts might be different. FUNgus guy (talk) 17:00, 19 June 2014 (UTC) p.s. Is there a federal equivalent to this template that you are aware of?[reply]
