Role of Persia (Iran) in the history of wine

[edit]

It seems odd that so little information is available in Wikipedia about the cultivation of wine grapes and the use of wine in Persia, which is copiously attested to in Persian poetry and visual arts. The names of various grape varieties come from historical Greater Persia, including Mosul, Shiraz. Is this a simple accidental omission, or is there a push from the Islamist government to suppress this history? Melba1 (talk) 07:43, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Eh, I think it is more a case of no one having the opportunity to do the research and find the reliable sources needed to expand this article yet. As one of the main WP:WINE editors, I can say that the only "conspiracy" when it comes to our wine coverage is that there is so many good wines in the world and so little time and effort put into documenting the encyclopedic story behind them. Feel free to be WP:BOLD and pitch in to help improve our coverage in this area. AgneCheese/Wine 08:37, 26 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
