True or false: this article belongs at BK (disambiguation) with BK being a re-direct to Burger King. 66.245.108.29 01:14, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

I would say no. Anyone who wanted to look up Burger King would most likely simply type "Burger King" into the search box, and articles similarly write it out in full. It's better to have the disambiguation page here, especially considering the sheer number of things BK can stand for. Livajo 01:17, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Are you sure that there's something else a link for BK would most likely point to?? 66.245.108.29 01:20, 9 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Bk=Book

...or is that just something I do?Arry 20:23, 7 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Target pages should use the term itself.

[edit]

A disambiguation page should not be used simply because something can be abbreviated BK. If it is not so abbreviated on the target page and you feel it should be, then you can add the abbreviation there (provided you have a good Source). Otherwise, the link should be deleted from this page. Yours, GeorgeLouis (talk) 21:43, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move

[edit]

This page should be renamed to simply "BK", per Wikipedia:Disambiguation#Is there a primary topic?. 109.225.98.60 (talk) 17:54, 16 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

BK (disambiguation)BK – Based on the pageviews, the BK redirect has been viewed 3 times per day whereas the DAB page has gotten 13 views per day. While BK is the main short form for Burger King, this suggests that Burger King isn't many users' first thought when searching for "BK". That combined with this suggests there isn't really a good candidate for primary topic, so that's why I believe the DAB should be PRIMARYTOPIC.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 06:34, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

  • I would tend to agree. Certainly WikiNav results are useless right now because of the 57.7k monthly incoming views of Burger King, only a tiny minority could ever be from lookups of "BK", so it's a blip on the radar. If we move the disambiguation page to BK, in two months time it will be possible to actually see if an overwhelming amount of people are going to Burger King from there and verify if there's a case for a primary topic redirect. --Joy (talk) 09:28, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment I have to say I'm confused by those numbers. How are users even arriving at the DAB page? The only mainspace articles that link to it are Burger King and List of acronyms: B(which only gets 19 daily views total). When you type "BK" into the search bar, the DAB page doesn't even pop up in the suggestions. Obviously the number of users that go to BK, are redirected, and then hit the DAB page can't be more than the 3 per day. What am I missing? -- Fyrael (talk) 15:29, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
    Tbh I'm confused about what you're asking lol  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 20:17, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I'm just musing aloud on how users are arriving at the DAB page. It's only tangentially related to your move request. And for what it's worth I changed your pageviews link (which I admit I shouldn't have) because the graph is much more readable when summarized monthly instead of daily. -- Fyrael (talk) 04:59, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Oh ok, no worries! I was just confused because I saw different numbers when I clicked on the links again and thought maybe that's where your confusion came from.  Bait30  Talk 2 me pls? 06:05, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It's possible that people landing on Burger King directly are clicking the hatnote just out of curiosity. Station1 (talk) 08:44, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support I've never heard Burger King called "BK" however Google returns Burger King first but does also return results for dictionaries saying it means "Book". The website and Wikipedia article do also use "BK" but even still I don't think its particularly common. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:14, 16 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nomination and Crouch, Swale as well as per comment by Joy. There are 20 entries listed upon the BK (disambiguation) page, with no indication that the purported acronym for Burger King is the WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT of such renown that it overwhelms the combined notability of the remaining 19 entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 00:43, 17 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support per nom. Burger King certainly is often referred to as BK, but I don't think the abbreviation is so major as to trump all the others. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:38, 18 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Followup to move

[edit]

WikiNav for January 2023 says '587 incoming pageviews', 'The actual number of incoming pageviews received by BK is 240', and shows 30 outgoing clicks to Burger King. So far it seems like the move was correct, because whichever of these statistics makes more sense, all indicate that there isn't really overwhelming interest in a primary topic. --Joy (talk) 10:45, 4 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In February 2023 we had 387 or 351 incoming, with 113 going to Burger King, so this is likewise probably just fine. --Joy (talk) 18:53, 17 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

In April '23 the incoming numbers at WikiNav are still wacky, 616 or 532. Outgoing, Burger King gets 119 (~19% or ~22%). --Joy (talk) 07:38, 10 June 2023 (UTC)[reply]
